Electric Run 2013....Been there DID that!!!

Yep you read right....I DID it!!!

I met my goal and did my second 5K of the summer earlier this month with my sister and my good friend Andrea!

We did the ELECTRIC RUN 5K around the National Harbor in Washington DC and was AWESOME!!!

It was an evening race and there were easily 10,000 runners there. Lots of music and black lights and people through out the event cheering us on.  We had a blast.  I know I cannot wait to do it again next year.  If you want to join my team just let me know (and for the record I did have to stop and walk a few times, yeah. But so what!!)

Here are some photos:

Me in the Electric Run Shirt!!

My sister on our way to the event!!

My sister and I after we got our "War Paint" on for the event
(which was glow in the dark and black light sensitive body paint)

Me at the Start Line!  So Happy to finally be here!

STICKMAN and Our MC (they made it "Rain" glowsticks and prizes)

The official Electric Run Tunnel!!

The AMAZING (and blinding at the same time) Black Light Tunnel!!!!

Rainbow Road!!! (after the Umbrella Lane...which was really crazy if you ask me)

In NaufmannLand we took a quick stop on this Glowbridge for a photo...the paint was still glowing strong near the end of the race.

My sister and I at the after party...YAY!!! (we were ready to go home, LOL)

This whole thing was such and amazing experience and I'm really glad I set this goal for myself. I never imagined I would do 2 different 5K Runs in the same summer (or within 2 months of eachother). But I did it!

I have so many people to thank for their support and love and they all know who they are. So I will just simply say THANK YOU so much for everything.

I am on my weight loss journey and I am 75% to my goal (from starting in December 2012).  The toughest part is in front of me and I will make it. :)

Breaking Washington Capitals News: Olie Kolzig

Welcome Back Olie Kolzig!!!!!

This morning Olie Kolzig was named the new goal tending coach for the Washington Capitals!!!!

WAY TO GO OLIE THE GOALIE (he will always be #37 to me)!!!!

The Article below is from WashingtonCaps.com:

Capitals Promote Olie Kolzig to Head Goaltender Coach

Scott Murray named as Associate Goaltender Coach

Wednesday, 09.04.2013 / 8:47 AM / ARLINGTON, Va. –

The Washington Capitals have promoted Olie Kolzig to head goaltender coach and named Scott Murray as the associate goaltender coach, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
“Olie has a wealth of knowledge and experience and we believe with him spending the past two seasons as the associate goaltending coach he is ready to take the next step in his coaching career,” said McPhee. “We are also very pleased to welcome Scott Murray to the organization.”
Kolzig, 43, spent the past two seasons as the associate goaltending coach for the Capitals. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native played in 711 games as a Capital from 1989-90 through 2007-08. He currently owns nearly every all-time Capitals goaltending record, including games played, wins (301), shutouts (35) and minutes (41,259) and ranks fourth (minimum 3,000 minutes played) in goals-against average (2.70) and third in save percentage (.906). In terms of single-season records, Kolzig leads in games (73), minutes (4,371), wins (41) and is second (minimum 1,200 minutes) in goals-against average (2.20), save percentage (.920) and shutouts (6).
Kolzig was awarded the 2000 Vezina Trophy, awarded to the league’s top goalie, and was named the 2005-06 King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner (awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community). He was also named to two NHL All-Star teams (1998 and 2000) as a member of the Capitals.
A former Caps first-round draft pick (19th overall) in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft, Kolzig helped guide Washington to the Stanley Cup Final in 1998. During his final season with the Caps in 2007-08, Kolzig was teammates with several current Capitals, including captain Alex OvechkinNicklas Backstrom and Mike Green. The three-time German Olympian (1998, 2002 – sat out due to injury and 2006) appeared in 719 career NHL games with Washington and Tampa Bay before retiring in September 2009.

Murray joins the Capitals organization after spending the past five seasons as the goaltending coach for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League. In addition, he spent the past two years working with goaltenders at RHP Training Facility - a yearlong goaltending development program in Sudbury which he co-owns. Murray, 35, played hockey collegiately at Lake Superior State University. The St. Clements, Ontario, native also played for the San Angelo Saints (Central Hockey League) and Motor City Mechanics (United Hockey League) during his professional career.

This summer holds MANY firsts for me!

I'm doing a LOT of Firsts this summer....

This post is going to talk about two of them.

First is the Ridiculous Obsticle Course (ROC) Race and it is scheduled for Aug 10th at RFK Stadium in Washington DC and I'm in the Gage's Crusade team with a good bunch of my friends.

Here is a video giving you an actual POV of what the race is like....it's WIPEOUT meets a 5K!!  I'm so excited.

The second thing I'm doing was the first race I signed up for.... The Electric Run 5K - DC!! I will be running in the Friday September 6th race with the Chelle Chockers (yep it's my team alright we are gonna ROCK) and it a race set around the National Harbor.  It's going to be AWESOME.

Here is the newest 2013 official video just release recently....Can't wait too (already planning a bunch of flashing, neon colored and glow in the dark stuff to wear).

As for my other firsts this summer...I'm sure I'll post about those soon too because one of those falls BETWEEN these two races.
 Stay tuned for sure. :)

This kitten totally made my day!!!

I have to admit after my office had no air conditioning on one of the hottest days of the year so far with a heat index closing in on 105 degrees Fahrenheit.  My sister found this video while we were sweating in the office and we laughed so much about it....

I didn't much care for the nerdy song...BUT the kitten STOLE THE SHOW!!!!

So freaking funny! I hope it made you laugh today too.

Paula Deen and the Food Network

If you've not heard already.....

The Food Network has released a statement saying that they "will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month".

If you don't know what has happened here is the situation, I hope I have it correct:  A long time ago in a "PRIVATE" conversation and NOT an interview (keep in mind) Paula Deen let the N-word slip and it has since come to the public's attention.  And now it has turned into a huge conspiracy and news event.

I do know there has been reports and proof of Paula Deen's behavior towards her staff and her restaurants over the years, which are terrible (certain staff to use certain entrances and bathrooms, etc)

In my opinion, there are film makers that have won awards for films that have the N word in it over 100 times and no one has even thought twice at saying one thing to them about that.  So this whole thing is just obsurd.  I don't condone using the word on any platform in any way...my major issue with this is the statement Paula Deen made, was made 30 YEARS AGO!!!!  There is NO EXCUSE for racism on ANY LEVEL, but something doesn't feel right about this.

I found the Paula Deen apology videos on YouTube: 2 of them are the public apologies and the third is for Matt Lauer and for having to cancel at the last minute on her interview with him.  Watch Below...

Here is the FIRST ONE:

Here is the Second One:

Lastly is the Third short video directly to Matt Lauer himself  (this is all that was released online that I could find of this one):

What's done is done.

I'm sure the relationship is now over between Paula Deen and Food Network is over and they will NOT overturn their decision.  But I'm sure both sides of this story will be just fine.  However, I'm sure it will be a little while before we see Paula Deen on TV addressing this issue.

There is no excuse for racism on ANY LEVEL, but I'm still not sure about all of this...for some reason something feel off about this.

It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time, in real life

Few things really make me literally Laugh Out Loud.... but last night I did so, soooooooo much that my husband actually came in to check on me from another room because he wasn't sure if I was crying or laughing.  I was just trying not to wake the entire house I was laughing so hard at this video.

It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time IN REAL LIFE...and this guy show up the mascot.... check it out...

I don't care if that guy was a real guard of if he was even a part of the entertainment staff...that was FUNNY as hell!!!

UPDATE:  He's NOT a plant he's an actual guard and here's another video from him at another location at another game dancing to another song....LOL

ROCK ON!!!!

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SUMMER!!!

Things you enjoy doing...what do you like?

Lately I have found that there are things that I have really come to enjoy...or I have re-found my love for certain things.

I have discovered that I really enjoy the art of belly dancing and LOVE going to my belly dancing classes, they are so much fun. I take classes at a place called Saffron Dance and I HIGHLY recommend them!!!

They even have a belly dance flash mob video:
This is in front of the Clarendon Metro Station entrance in Arlington, Virginia.

I could only wish the above picture was me...but maybe some day (in like a million years maybe..LOL).

Not that it is not common knowledge, I have a music degree.  And I LOVE playing my flutes with the Woodbridge Flute Choir. They are a great group of people and I really love being a part of something so fantastic.

This one is of me and my cheesy smile and messy hair (after how many times I had to adjust those headphones) during the WFC's 1st recording session for their fourth commercial CD to be produced later this year. I'm honored to be a part of this flute choir.  In another blog entry I will do an education on the many different types of flutes (including ones that are over 6 feet tall and there is one that is played in the Woodbridge Flute Choir too).  Now aren't you curious??  If you've never heard a flute choir and want to let me know and I can hook you up for sure.

Next,
Not to anyone's surprise.....HOCKEY!!!!  I'm a GINORMOUS HOCKEY FAN!!!

LET'S GO CAPS!!!

Well I will say right now since there are only two teams left fighting for the Stanley Cup.....
Let's Go BRUINS!! (yep, I went there!)

Lastly, for this entry but certainly not the least...I have found a love that I'm working on (and one that I've always dreamed of doing).  A love of writing!  Yes, I have started writing.

I'm sure the small handful of you that actually see this have notice my increased pace to my entry amount lately.  I am doing my best to keep my mind flowing of ideas and my imagination bouncing from here to there at all times (which is usually a good thing for me).  I'm a long ways from posting anything for public viewing.  BUT from what I have been told from the few I have let read about my idea that I'm currently working on.... it's not bad (and they usually can't wait to read more, which makes me smile).

So  TELL me...what do you enjoy?!?!

Cheerios Parody...."Eat it Haters!"

Oh Em Geeeeee!!!! I TOTALLY love this video!!!

Here you go it is a parody of the controversial cherrios ad that received so much racial back lash by by having a bi-racial couple and a mixed child.

EAT IT HATERS!

and if you've not seen the original commercial....

Here it is..

I am a believer that hate is an awful thing and that in this day in age that people would be smarter and see past such petty things as skin color and race.  But I guess some are not there just yet.  I anxiously await the day when all of us can be united and this world can put racism and such to rest.

Krispy Kreme Sloppy Joe.... Really????

My first thought when I saw this...was and kind of still is EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

But now that I think about it...

the sweet and savory thing is not such a bad idea if the mix is proper and not over done.

Here is the ad I initially saw on Facebook.

If the cheese is melted and it is a regular doughnut and such it looks better than what is above.  The Today show had Kathy Lee and Hoda eating these on air.  They were talking with their mouths full as to how good they were. I could not help but laugh.

If I could find a video of that I would post it (but the show is still on) if I find one before the end of the day I will.

Any recipes like this you've come across that were oddly awesome???  Please share!

I know it's Tuesday, BUT....

I know it's Tuesday...

But for some unknown strange reason my mind thinks it's Monday....

UH NO!!!!

What the heck is my mind and body thinking??? Have you ever had this kind of week?? Geeze...maybe it's the weather and all of this craziness and such.  I don't know.  But dang.  I need to get my head on straight for this weekend so I can celebrate my day of birth correctly!

Monday, June 10, 2013

Cicada's have you seen them this year??

Cicada's...
I've been lucky enough not to have them where I live this year.  But 17 years ago I wasn't so lucky and I got to see them in FULL force and let me tell you that was sooooooo scary.

When you are young and they are crawling everywhere...yeah that is scary.

However I came across this amazing video:

See the amazing video here! I was glad I did!

It truly shows you the beauty in life and how short it can be.  Don't ever take any thing for granted.

The song said WHAT???

Have you ever been rocking out or jamming to a song in your car/house and thought that you'd like to sing along but didn't know the words?  "Hey" you think "I'll just look up the lyrics and learn them" so the next time you cue up the song you'll be able to really get down and jam to the some.  BUT....

The song said WHAAAAAAAT?!?!?!

Yeah...that happened to me. And Nope, i'm not telling what the song was, i'm to embarrassed (to be honest). But I thought I was pretty good about being dialed in to the lyrics of songs. Especially lately.  But apparently I wasn't.

One I found that did get me in the past that I WILL share with you is THIS song.....

Get Low - by Lil Jon

Yeah I used to like the beat and such and would dance to it...then one day realize what the heck he was saying...and was like oh dammmmmn. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Have you ever had this happen to you? Do tell, please!?!

Coffee or Tea?? (or....ah nevermind)

Coffee?

or
Tea?
To be perfectly honest with you I like BOTH!

But it really depends on the mood I'm in.  But caffeine is the driving factor. However I'm a TEA person first and foremost (honestly, sorry coffee).

One thing that usually is asked is Which is better for you?

Well I found a great article by Beth Reinke and she covers ALL of the basics and every quesion I ever had about all health benefits of either.  As far as I know in the future, it's bottoms up for me. YAY!
Follow THIS LINK to read it!!!

Saving Money is not as difficult as you think

One thing that I truly have a difficult time doing is SAVING MONEY!

Yep! It's true.  Usually the kids need something (yeah I blamed it on the kids uh huh...LOL)  But usually it's something related to a bill or a household need or even a vehicle repair that most of the time sets my bank account on its rear.

But I found this online..and even on a super strict budget this is totally doable and totally to your advantage:

You can start week one whenever (and not just at the beginning of the year so don't use THAT excuse). So this is a GREAT way to save some $$$.  I think this is fantastic.

I approve!

Tuesday, June 04, 2013

What to say about Tuesday??

Well, not much can be said about today. Other than:

Eh, it's ok. Don't worry just be sure to get a favorite beverage of yours (what ever it may be) and take a moment for yourself and relax for a second.  Even those precious moments are nice, no matter how few they may be for some of us.

And just remember on days like today:

Share a smile today!

Game of Thrones, June 2nd Episode - WOAH! - NO Spoilers don't worry

Yeah I'm one of the masses that is in awe about the Game of Thrones (GoT) episode last night.
I'm obsessed with this series, as most of the loyal to it have become:

We waited over 6 months for season 3

and last nights episode (don't worry I won't put spoilers in here) and goodness knows how long we will have to wait for season 4.  But after last nights episode I just need to remember all the advise that I have got from those that have read the books, and the best one is "Don't get attached to any character, however safe you think they are."  OMG, I never realized how correct that advice was until after last nights episode.

All I can say and am still staying is, HOLY CRAP!!

Now we still have 1 more episode and I'm sure it's going to be rather EPIC. But last nights episode was rather incredible to say the least.  I'm anxiously awaiting the season finale and the amazing twist that is upon us (I don't know what it is...but I know there is one coming).

Have you ever enjoyed a show so much like I am enjoying this one??? Or are you enjoying this one just as much??  Let me know what it is, maybe I might like it too??

Just LOVE Cherrios!! Don't you?

Well in this day in age you think people would be a little more open minded, right?

I guess not.  Well, check out the newest commercial that has gone viral...YEP, it's a Cherrios commercial (and it only went viral because of the comments it got on the YouTube channel, which have now been disabled) Watch it...it's only 30 seconds.

I really liked this commercial when I saw it and it made me smile and laugh actually. As most of these commercials do, because I have kids (and I can see them doing these things).  But all of the racial back lash that this is causing is just nauseating.

Seriously people, what are you going to do when Cherrios puts a same-sex couple or better yet a same-sex inter-racial couple in a commercial?  I'm sure all hell is gonna break loose.  As for me.... I can't wait.

Way to go Cherrios in staying strong and not removing the commercial and keeping it up and out there for all of us to see!  THANK YOU!!

Should be it's very own food group...COOKIE BUTTER!

I feel VERY strong about this.

Trader Joe's has a product called Speculoos Cookie Butter.

There is an original and a crunchy version (my opinion, original is the better version).  This is very similar to a peanut butter type product but made with gingerbread and crushed biscuits.  Let me just tell you.  It is HEAVEN in every mouthful.  Some people don't like it, yes I do understand that.
As for me, I think I deserves to be it's very own food group I could eat it that often and not get sick of it.

In fact, I have 2 jars in my pantry at the moment.

Have you ever tried this product?  Have you ever used it in something (like baking) other than eating it with a spoon or spreading it on something?  I use it in a few baking recipes and get RAVING reviews every time (it's my secret weapon, heehee....well not any more)

Tell me what you think?

I just LOVE this stuff. Thank you, Trader Joe's!

What happens when you have a conversation with a 2 year old and replace the 2 year old with a fully grown man???
Hilarity happens....

And this is just Episode 1...hahahaha

Survey for Starbucks...YAY!

Got to do a survey for Starbucks today. YAY!!

Have you ever done one??  Well when you are done you get a dollar off your next purchase. (Hey a $1 off is better than full price)  Well it used to be that when you did these you would get a free DRINK of your choice.  But I guess that started to get pricey.  LOL

I really like the Starbucks location near my office, I only go there once and a while. But when I do I am greeted by name every time by the manager (how she does that I'll never know) and the staff always get the order right.  If they don't, they will make you a new order (no questions asked, EVER).  I love that place.

Is there a place that you've gone that you really like that has made you feel as welcome as this? If so please let me know, I'd love to go or at least know of it so I can be on the look out for it if I'm ever in your area.

Hoping for a fix to the problem.

Apparently there were some BAD things....

some MALWARE...trying to get on my blog here.

I'm hoping I have fixed that.

If you see something please let me know.  I want to be able to fix things if there is a problem.

Thank you for those that brought the problem to my attention.
